Friday update 11-9-07

November 9, 2007
Community Meetings: The Franklin County Board of Education and Board of County
Commissioners have enjoyed success at four community meetings. There are two re-
maining in the series, with the next one taking place this coming Tuesday at Louisburg
High School at 7 p.m. in the new cafeteria. Franklinton High School will host the final
meeting on November 15th at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Attendance has been fair and
there have been many questions and opinions voiced at most of the meetings. These
meetings outline projects completed from the 2004 School Bond and express current
FCS facility needs.

Medication Distribution: Effective November 1st, our school nurses will no longer be
able to distribute any over-the-counter medications. The only medications that a
school nurse will have are emergency medications such as Benadryl and epinephrine.
These medications are to be used in the event that a student or staff member has an
allergic reaction. This means that when students have rashes, cuts, tooth pain, bug
bites, or an upset stomach, the school nurses will not be able to administer any medi-
cation to relieve the discomfort. For cuts and abrasions, students will be asked to
wash the wound with soap and water. This does not necessitate a visit to the nurse’s
office unless a bloodborne pathogen concern arises. Please be aware that K-5 stu-
dents may have over-the-counter products by a medical doctor’s order, and grade 6-12
students may have over-the-counter products by parent permission if it is in a single
dose labeled container. If you have any questions, see your school nurse.
Address Change: The Central Office mailing address has changed to 53 West River
Road
, Louisburg, NC 27549. Please update this information. The old PO Box is being
phased out.
Flu Shot Clinic: You have two chances left to get your flu shot through FCS. Cedar
Creek Middle will hold a clinic on November 13th, and Franklinton High School will do
so on November 14th.
